District Chess Competition - Feb 3 - 17th B&D HQ

This years competition saw 14 Cubs in a very closely fought battle. The competition was exceptionally close and the standard was very high. Almost every game hang in the balance and hard decisions had to be taken by the judges. In the end there was very little separating those that attended...any one of them could have won the competition. Not only was the technical standard high but the show of sportsmanship and ‘scouting spirit’ stood out too. Thanks to the 17 th for hosting the event and keeping us ‘refreshed’, to the judges who had a very difficult job, to the leaders and parents who helped out and most importantly of all to the Cubs who made the competition run so well.

Founders Day - Feb 25 - 6th B&D Church

Founders Day this year was a very enjoyable day out. Kept short and sweet the organisers (6th B & D) did an excellent job of keeping the attention of the young people. Special mention goes to the 'Walking' song complete with actions and the 'Conga' song as we all exited the hall in one big conga line!

District Handcraft Competition - Mar 10 - 21st B&D HQ

The Cub Handcraft Competition saw some strong entries and the tables were full with interesting craft items. The judges had a very hard time trying to choose the top four from each section and were forced to make some difficult decisions. Thanks to all those that entered and supported the competition, and to those who turned up on the Saturday to view the exhibits and to 'cheer on' those who gained a certificate.

District Funday - May 19 - Hargreaves

A new event for the district, several groups manned a 'base' or two during the day. The aim was simple...make sure everyone had fun...and I believe that aim was achieved. Events included hoop-la, painting, plastercasts, ducks, bowlball, tin can alley, making a windscreen 'visor' and many others. Not to mention the games of cricket, waterfights, swedish longball, water rockets and general messing about. A very enjoyable day.

Athletes Badge - 8 June 2001 - Mayesbrook Arena

About one hundred Cubs came out on a lovely evening and all gained at least one badge. After much discussion (and after being called tight amongst other things) it was decided that if a Cub gained say stages three on their first Athletes Badge night they could have the Badge for stages one and two as well. It seems that many of you have been doing this for some time so who am I not to bow to popular demand.

Cub Quiz - 13 October 2001 - 17th HQ

Well what a weekend it's been, I got up on Saturday (13th October) finished the questions for the Cub Quiz section this week. Thinking to myself that all the questions are done and I have time to do some shopping before I have to be at the 17th 's H.Q. for the Cub quiz. I got home at about 11.30 went and put my uniform on when Ann said I'll just check to see if we have any message's only one said Ann. The owner of the site where we keep our caravan phoned to say the awnings fell down so can you come and take it down before it gets damaged. So after a few phone calls I dropped off the questions to Rose and went to Clacton and took the awning down thankfully there was no damage to the awning!

Yet again I would like to thank Rose, Ken and Darren , all at the 17th and all the leaders that helped run the Cub Quiz at such short notice as it shows again what a strong District Team we have in Barking & Dagenham. "O" yes the result of the Cub Quiz was:

Third Place - 9th B&D
Second - 17th Upney
First - 17th Troubadours.

So to all the packs that took part well done.
