Information and links relevant to the Incident Hike

The Incident hike is open to all the Scouts in the District. The Scouts normally walk along a route of 6 to 10 miles, along which incident bases are placed at regular distances. Each Patrol must stop at each base and complete the incident.

There are two trophies. One for the quickest time to walk the route (not including the time spent at the bases) and one for the highest overall score at the incident bases.

Teams of 4-8 Scouts are allowed although Troops are encouraged to enter any Scouts as combined teams can be made up if you numbers outside this range. Troops may also enter more than one team.

Explorers Instructions:

Please download and read all of the above sheets. Print them off and bring them with you to the event. You will be supplied with a laminated map with some notes and on the reverse of that will be some notes and details of what your job on that stretch will be.

Please bring a mobile phone, fully charged and make sure that Steve Wakeling and Richard Blunden get a copy of your phone numbers right at the start of the event

We will have Explorer sweep teams operating on all stretches (apart from Base 2 to Base 3). Your job will be to ensure the safety of the Scouts when crossing the roads, escorting them along dangerous patches and ensuring that they stick to their instructions and directions. There are several points along the route where they may get confused and go off course. Read the Patrol Directions, the Leader Notes and the Explorer notes carefully as together they should give plenty of information on where the Patrols SHOULD be going.

You will be assigned your particular stretch on the day by one of the organising team so it is probably best that you read up on all the sections beforehand.

Leaders Instructions:

Please download and read all of the above sheets. Print them off and bring them with you to the event.

Please bring a mobile phone, fully charged and make sure that Steve Wakeling and Richard Blunden get a copy of your phone numbers right at the start of the event

Please ensure that your bring all that is required for your incident.

Leaders are reminded to note the times of arrival and departure carefully on the patrol sheets and your own copy. This is important else the time for walking, and hence the timed trophy results, cannot be calculated.

Leaders are asked to bring their own first aid kits and a large container of water so that patrol water supplies can be refilled at each base.
